Big women's news last week in Utah was the showing of Utah produced documentary film about a third grade girls soccer team, the Cheetahs, "the Mighty Cheetahs," who won all the games in their division and decided to play the boys teams in an effort to experience losing. Problem is they were so good they beat the boys!

The documentary is called "Kick Like a Girl" and is narrated by 8-year-old Lizzie whose mom, Jenny Mackenzie, coaches the team and creates the film. Lizzie has juvenile diabetes but has as much grit and competitiveness or more than the boys. The boys and their parents are also interviewed.

The jacket of the film says, "35 years after Tiltle IX, 8-year-old girls are still breaking new ground. I think this year was the 40th Anniversary of Title IX. I will check and correct if my brain isn't remembering correctly.

Other women's news concerning the film is that Geralyn Dreyfous of Salt Lake Film Center and Oscar fame, was the executive producer and Jennifer Jordan local author and film maker was the editor. I was impressed with how many Utah individuals, mostly women, contributed to finance the film. So did Zions Bank and Citi Bank play a part. It took a community of mostly women.

"Kick Like a Girl" has been named an Official Selection 2008 Santa Barbara International Film Festival and is included in 18 other film festivals this year. You can see a trailer at www.kicklikeagirlmovie.com
